EH201 A small black snuff box made from bone circa 1830 - 1840, depicting Napoleon at the old woman's. The text on the box comes from a fairly long poem by the songwriter Pierre-Jean Beranger (1780 -1857)" I'm hungry he said and very quickly i serve him wine " and brown bread, then he dries his cloths and falls asleep. Beranger used his poems largely to express republican and Bonapartist ideas, and was twice imprisoned. £255 |

EH134 A wonderful marine ivory carving, most certainly from the French port of Diepe Circa 1830 - 1850 . The town is famous for marine ivory carving during the early to the middle of the19th century. The image which folds out making three sections shows Napoleon surveying
the battlefield (or possibly looking across the English Channel to England)
with his Marshals and soldiers. The carved detail is quite remarkable. |
